We arrived there well in time to walk abouts and buy some T-shirts and merchandise... I got myself a tour shirt, a wristband and a tour book, forgot how expensive concert merch can be! What was it... $95 for a jumper!? Hell, if I had taken my bankcard.. damnit, I still would have bought one. I've seen those jumpers on eBay so I'll just look about on there for half the price. :3
We got in the doors to the Theater... Theatre... yes... and oooh! How wonderful it was, the GA area was nice and enclosed, not many people but then again I didn't expect many... I was so happy to see other DT fans, they are so rare to come across!
They had a stoplight at the top of the stage, that went from red, orange, to green. Hell of neat feature, all of us anticipating the next light change. =P
The curtain went up, and we got a neat surprise of the youtube video posted previously!! That, that was fantastic! The dude that made that must have been so surprised and taken with pride, and for good reason!

It was a given they would have started out that way, The Dark Eternal night was brilliant live, such dark lyrics and quote 'the heaviest riff in DT's history'. I really enjoyed the new stuff live, of course, I love the new album but I was worried they'd place too much emphasis on it. It set up very well!Constant Motion

Lines In The Sand I think was one of the best they played, Labrie's vocals were absolutely fantastic in that one, I Walk Beside You brought the emotions that I knew that would come if I heard it live.
Scenes from a Memory was delivered through a few songs, that album is one of my favourites, so neat to hear those songs! There was a lot of band interaction on stage which was ever so heartwarming! Labrie joked a bit with the crowd, and also commanding the stage with his microphone, coming to us in the crowd, standing right above us and letting us sing the lyrics.
The crowd was very tame, just as one could expect from a DT concert. They're music doesn't call for heavy moshing at all, and I felt happy and secure in my place at the front. Apart from a few annoying people who kept singing so awfully right into my ears, it was a very mellow appreciative crowd. It was nice to be in a crowd like that again, a strong contrast to those of the more heavier metal gigs. Oh, how I love prog, the moments it offers to really fully sit back and appreciate the music hitting you.
During Voices, we could tell something was going wrong... there were the guys running about on stage, talking to Ruddess and looks between the other members... that wasn't a good sign... Labrie running off when the instrumental part kicked in. What was hoping to be a short minute to fix the problem, turned out to be the end of the show itself.... when they walked on stage all together, Portnoy in his boxing robe, I could feel my heart literally breaking, I didn't want to hear the announcement they had to make...
According to some guy on the forums who had a copy of the setlist: Pull Me Under, Metropolis Pt.1 and As I Am were to be played. Metropolis Pt.1 was the very first thing I ever heard of DT, alone in my room the Summer after graduation, I would have given anything in the world to hear that song tonight. Sadly, no Octavarium, I shouldn't have had my hopes up, it is a lot of effort for them to play for those 20 odd minutes, and frankly it's too damn grand for a small Perth show.
Even though the show ended early, I had the time of my life during the set they managed. I had been counting down the days in such anxious anticipation, finding myself daydreaming and smiling about the very thought of seeing them. I saw Dream Theater tonight, I saw my favourite band that is of now, and I cannot wait to see them again.
